WEAPONS, AMMUNITION, DRUGS SEIZED AS RESULT OF SEARCH WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – On the morning of Oct. 24, 2024, the Cornwall Police Service (CPS) conducted a search warrant on Champagne Avenue, and an investigation ensued.

Two individuals were apprehended. Subsequently, weapons, ammunition and drugs were seized.

This investigation was a collaborative effort executed by the Cornwall Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the Street Crime Unit (SCU).

Patrick Joanette, 33, of Cornwall, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Fail to comply with release order
  • Eight counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Two counts of careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – heroin
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

Marissa Collette, 30, of Cornwall, was also arrested and charged with the following:

  • Two counts of careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – heroin
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

It is alleged on Oct. 24, 2024, the individuals were in possession of several weapons, including an accessible, loaded 12-gauge shotgun, a variety of different types of ammunition as well as several prohibited weapons. It is also alleged, they were in possession of Schedule I substances for the purpose of trafficking, including methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine. A large amount of Canadian and American currency was also seized.

Additionally, it is alleged, the man was bound by a release order with the relevant condition to not possess any weapons, prohibited or restricted weapon or device, firearm part, ammunition or explosive substance or anything designed to be used or intended for use to cause death or injury or to threaten or intimidate any person. Furthermore, it is alleged, the man was also bound by a prohibition order with the relevant condition to not possess any firearm, cross bow, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon or prohibited device for a period of 10 years.

The individuals were taken into custody and charged accordingly. The woman was released to appear in court on Nov. 28, 2024, while the man was held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY, SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – Robin Torsti, 27, of Cornwall, was arrested on Oct. 24, 2024, and charged with the following:

  • Three counts of fail to comply with undertaking
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Theft under $5,000

It is alleged on Oct. 6, 2024, the woman was bound by an undertaking with the relevant condition to not communicate with a specific individual, to not be within 50 metres of the individual and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is also alleged on this date, the woman was bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. Furthermore, it is alleged on this date, the woman attended a Ninth Street East business, selected merchandise and left the store without making an attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. The investigation also revealed the woman attended the store with the individual she was prohibited from communicating with. On Oct. 24, 2024, the woman was located at the courthouse. She was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY, SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – Jason Tyo, 45, of Cornwall, was arrested on Oct. 24, 2024, and charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation order and one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged on Oct. 1, 2024, the man was bound by two separate probation orders with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is also alleged on this date, the man attended a Ninth Street East business, selected merchandise and left the store without making an attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On Oct. 24, 2024, the man attended police headquarters to address the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Nov. 28, 2024.

SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – Tala Shaver, 35, of Cornwall, was arrested on Oct. 24, 2024, and charged with theft under $5,000. It is alleged on Oct. 1, 2024, the woman attended a Ninth Street East business, selected merchandise and left the store without making an attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On Oct. 24, 2024, the woman attended police headquarters to address the matter. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Nov. 28, 2024.

WARRANT, FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – Troy Square, 49, of Akwesasne, was arrested on Oct. 24, 2024, on the strength of an outstanding warrant and charged with two counts of fail to comply with release order. It is alleged on Feb. 8, 2024, and Feb. 23, 2024, the man was bound by a release order with the relevant condition to report to a bail supervisor. He failed to do so and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On Oct. 24, 2024, the man was taken into custody by members of the Canada Border Services Agency and subsequently turned over to the CPS. The warrant was executed, he was charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Nov. 24, 2024.

FAIL TO COMPLY, OPERATION WHILE PROHIBITED

Cornwall, ON – Nash Oakes, 27, of Akwesasne, was arrested on Oct. 24, 2024, and charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation order and two counts of operation while prohibited. It is alleged on Oct. 24, 2024, the man was bound by two separate probation orders with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is also alleged on this date, the man was bound by two separate driving prohibition orders to not operate a motor vehicle. On Oct. 24, 2024, the man was taken into custody by members of the Canada Border Services Agency and subsequently turned over to the CPS. He was charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Dec. 3, 2024.

There were 68 calls for service in the City of Cornwall over the last 24 hours (8 a.m. yesterday to 8 a.m. today). CPS reserves the right to not post all calls for service in order to protect the identity of the victims.
