Media Release - July 8, 2026

FAIL TO COMPLY, BREAK AND ENTER, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE

Cornwall, ON – A 59-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on July 7, 2026, and charged with the following:

  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Break and enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Aggravated assault
  • Robbery with violence

In the early morning hours of July 5, 2026, Cornwall Police Service officers were dispatched to a break and enter call, and an investigation ensued.

It is alleged on July 4, 2026, the man was bound by a release order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is further alleged that on this date, the man broke into the residence of an individual known to him with the intent to commit an indictable offence, assaulted the victim causing serious injuries and stole his wallet. As a result of the investigation, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for the man’s arrest.

On July 7, 2026, he attended police headquarters to address the matter. The man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

SHOPLIFTING, FAIL TO COMPLY, BREAK AND ENTER, MISCHIEF

Cornwall, ON – A 31-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on July 7, 2026, on the strength of an outstanding warrant and additionally charged with theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

It is alleged on June 8, 2026, the man attended a Second Street East business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued – led by a Community Safety Officer. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest.

On June 10, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to a Water Street East business in relation to a break and enter complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged in the early morning hours of July 7, 2026, the man was bound by a release order with the relevant conditions to remain in his residence between specific hours and to not attend the Cornwall Square. It is also alleged he breached his curfew, attended the Cornwall Square and broke into a business, causing property damage. It is further alleged the man stole merchandise from the business. As a result of the investigation, a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charges of:

  • Two counts of fail to comply with release order
  • Break and enter a place – commit indictable offence
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property
  • Theft under $5,000 – shoplifting

On July 7, 2026, the man was located at the courthouse, where he was in custody on unrelated matters. The warrant was executed, he was charged accordingly and held in cells to await a bail hearing.

SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 27-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on July 7, 2026, and charged with theft under $5,000 – shoplifting. It is alleged on July 7, 2026, the woman attended a Ninth Street East business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. She was taken into custody by the Loss Prevention Officer at the business and subsequently turned over to a member of the CPS. The woman was charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Aug. 13, 2026.

ASSAULT WITH WEAPON

Cornwall, ON – A 20-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on July 7, 2026, and charged with assault with a weapon. On July 7, 2026, a CPS officer commenced an investigation into an assault complaint. It is alleged on July 5, 2026, the man assaulted an individual known to him with a hockey stick. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On July 7, 2026, he was located by police. The man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Aug. 11, 2026.
