FLIGHT FROM PEACE OFFICER, DANGEROUS OPERATION

Cornwall, ON – A 17-year-old youth from Tay Valley, ON, was arrested on July 29, 2026, on the strength of an outstanding warrant. In the early morning hours of Jan. 1, 2025, Cornwall Police Service officers, while assisting the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with an investigation, observed a motor vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. It is alleged on Jan. 1, 2025, the youth failed to stop for a peace officer and operated a motor vehicle in a manner that was dangerous to the public. A warrant was subsequently issued for her arrest on the charges of flight from peace officer and dangerous operation. On July 29, 2026, the woman was taken into custody by members of the OPP, who executed the warrant on behalf of the CPS. She was later released to appear in court on Aug. 20, 2026.

ASSAULT, UTTERING THREATS, FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – A 29-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on July 30, 2026, and charged with the following:

• Assault
• Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
• Fail to comply with probation order

On July 5, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to investigate an assault complaint. It is alleged on this date, the man assaulted his roommate and threatened to physically harm the individual. It is also alleged on this date, he was bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to not be within 200 metres of his girlfriend. Further investigation revealed the man was allegedly in contact with his girlfriend. As a result, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for his arrest. On July 30, 2026, the man attended police headquarters to address the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – A 40-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on July 30, 2026, on the strength of an outstanding warrant. On July 19, 2026, a CPS officer initiated an investigation into a bail violation complaint. It is alleged on this date, the woman was bound by a release order with the relevant conditions to reside with a surety at a specific address, to notify the officer in charge at the CPS within 24 hours of any change of address and to remain on her property at all times. She was also bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The investigation revealed the woman allegedly failed to reside with her surety, failed to notify the CPS of a change of address and failed to remain in her residence. A warrant was subsequently issued for her arrest on the charges of three counts of fail to comply with release order and one count of fail to comply with probation order. On July 30, 2026, the woman was located by a CPS officer, who was on general patrol in the City of Cornwall. After a brief foot pursuit, she was apprehended and taken into police custody. The warrant was executed and the woman was later released to appear in court on Sept. 1, 2026.

SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 21-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on July 30, 2026, and charged with theft under $5,000 – shoplifting. It is alleged on July 30, 2026, the woman attended a Second Street East business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. She was located, taken into custody and charged accordingly. The woman was later released to appear in court on Sept. 8, 2026.

POSSESSION INCENDIARY MATERIAL, MISCHIEF

Cornwall, ON – A 15-year-old youth from Cornwall was arrested on July 30, 2026, and charged with possession of incendiary material and mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property. On July 30, 2026, a CPS officer was dispatched to a trouble with youth call at a park in the City of Cornwall following ongoing issues reported at the location. It is alleged on this date, the youth was in possession of incendiary material and attempted to ignite a fire at the park. As a result of the investigation, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for his arrest. Later on July 30, 2026, the youth attended police headquarters to address the matter. He was taken into custody and charged accordingly under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The youth was released to appear in court at a later date.

SHOPLIFTING, FAIL TO ATTEND

Cornwall, ON – A 16-year-old youth from Cornwall was arrested on July 31, 2026, on the strength of an outstanding warrant and additionally charged with theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

It is alleged on April 25, 2026, the youth attended a Ninth Street East business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest.

It is further alleged on June 26, 2026, the youth was scheduled to attend court and failed to do so. A warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of failure to attend court after having appeared.

In the early morning hours of July 31, 2026, the youth was located and taken into custody by a CPS officer, who was on general patrol. The warrant was executed and he was charged accordingly under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The youth was held for a bail hearing.
