CPS STATEMENT

As a proud member of the IDEA Community Coalition, the Cornwall Police Service is committed to promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-oppression, and Truth and Reconciliation. We collaborate with local organizations and agencies to address systemic barriers and create lasting change. By focusing on community equity, continuous learning, inclusive practices, policy evaluation, and data-driven accountability, we strive to foster a more inclusive and just community for everyone.

The IDEA Community Coalition is Here to Stay

In recent months, conversations around Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) have intensified, with some questioning its relevance and impact. The IDEA Community Coalition sees this as a call to action—a moment to reaffirm and strengthen our commitment.

Our collaboration with over 41 local agencies proves that Anti-Oppression is not a passing trend or a political debate—it is a societal necessity and a legal obligation, rooted in human rights laws and protections.

Progress Meets Resistance - But Change is Inevitable

History has shown that every step toward progress is met with resistance. Yet, when we push forward, we create lasting change. Now is not the time to retreat. Now is the time to lead.

Strengthening Communities Through Inclusion

Beyond the workplace, true inclusion fosters communities where belonging is the norm. A Canada built on equity benefits everyone. When inclusion is woven into how we live, work, and connect, we all thrive.

Despite opposition, the responsibility to advance Equity Diversity and Inclusivity belongs to all of us. The future of our communities depends on the choices we make today—to speak up, to take action, and to build and to build a Cornwall, SDG and Akwesasne where inclusion is not an option, but the standard.
