Full-time Community Safety Officer, Special Constable

FULL-TIME COMMUNITY SAFETY OFFICER, SPECIAL CONSTABLE

The Cornwall Police Service strives to promote and demonstrate the values of Equity, Culture and Belonging. We are committed to reflecting the diversity of the community we serve and encourage qualified candidates of all background and abilities to apply. The Cornwall Police Service has identified a need for Full-Time Community Safety Officer, Special Constable(s).

The Special Constables assigned to the Community Safety Office will assist frontline officers in the performance of their police duties. Community Safety Officers will supplement and assist Police Constables in preserving the peace, preparing reports, collecting statements and engaging the public. Community Safety Officers will ensure the transportation, custody, administration and care of prisoners, including crisis intervention while in the custody of the Cornwall Police Service.

The successful candidate(s) will demonstrate above average skills & abilities in the following areas:

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • High-School diploma or equivalent
  • Post-secondary education is considered an asset
  • Must possess current Standard first Aid and current CPR certificates
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s license, Class G
  • Physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position (must pass a fitness assessment and psychological testing)
  • Clear working knowledge of various operating systems and applications including Windows 10, Microsoft office, CPIC, Niche and OSL
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System
  • Be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, information relative to the position

Applicants are required to successfully pass all testing components before being advanced to the next stage. Applicants in consideration for hire shall be subject to a thorough background investigation that may include but is not limited to: police check with local, provincial and out of country law enforcement agencies if required; education credentials; credit and financial inquiries; and personal and work references.

Successful candidates may be required to work various or rotating shifts, based on operational needs.

Cornwall Police Service offers a competitive annual salary, ranging from $80,761.44 to $87,803.11.
